Why Dryer Vent Safety Matters

Dryer vents can become clogged with lint over time, which creates several hazards.

  • Lint is highly flammable

  • Reduction of dryer's efficiency

  • Increasing energy costs.

Key Statistics

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, there are approximately 2,900 dryer fires in residential buildings each year in the United States. These fires cause an estimated 5 deaths, 100 injuries, and $35 million in property loss annually. The leading cause of these fires is failure to clean the dryer vent, accounting for about 34% of dryer fires.

Safety Best Practices

Clean your lint trap after every single load - this is your first line of defense. You should also have your dryer vent professionally cleaned at least once a year, or more frequently if you do a lot of laundry or have a longer vent run. Check that your outdoor vent flap opens properly when the dryer is running and closes when it's off.

Warning Signs

Watch for these indicators that your vent needs cleaning: clothes taking longer than normal to dry, the dryer getting very hot to the touch, a burning smell, or excessive lint around the dryer area.

Veteran Owned And Operated

VentVets is veteran-owned and operated by a former Air Force Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) specialist with 6 years of service.

As a TACP, my job was coordinating close air support in high-stakes situations where precision and attention to detail weren't just important - they were life or death. I brought that same focus and discipline home to Fort Wayne.

Now I apply that training to protecting local families from dryer fires. Every vent system gets the thorough inspection and meticulous cleaning it deserves. No shortcuts, no missed hazards, no second-guessing. Your home's safety is my mission.

Serving those who served, and the community that supports them.
